Sandlot Baseball

While we will no longer host tournaments at The Sandlot (formerly the old Mickey Owen Baseball School), Sandlot Baseball will continue to provide the same quality youth baseball tournaments throughout the 4 State region. Under the direction of Brad Longley and Tom Cox, Sandlot Baseball will be hosting tournaments in Mt. Vernon, and many other area facilities in 2024.

Sandlot Baseball tournaments will be one day (Saturdays only), 3 games guaranteed and played in some of the areas finest ballparks. There is never a gate fee and coolers are always welcome. We will use quality age-appropriate fields where kids from 8-14 can play baseball from April to August. The 2024 schedule includes 12 tournaments.

Thank you for the overwhelming support of coaches, players, parents and fans. Because of you, Sandlot Baseball lives on.

We hope you'll join us in 2024, and look forward to hearing those immortal words, "Play Ball!"

Building Better People Through Baseball

May 9 new projected date for first tournament

On Thursday, April 16, Governor Mike Parson ordered an extension to the state-wide stay-at-home order for the state of Missouri. This means that the earliest possible date for our first tournament of the year will be May 9 at The Sandlot. Sandlot Baseball is committed to the safety of our players, coaches, families, as well as our staff as we continue to work within the framework set forth by the governor, the CDC and the Lawrence County Health Department.

We are excited to return to play as soon as we receive the green light. May 9 is our new target date. We have been working hard to get the fields ready for the 2020 season. Please keep checking our website (www.sandlotbaseballmo.com) and our Facebook page (Sandlot Baseball). We look forward to seeing you all soon!

Spring Tune Up & Tournament Updates 3/29/20

COVID-19 Update

3/29/20

We have continued to work closely with the Lawrence County Health Department, the State of Missouri and the CDC related to COVID-19 and the implementation of a suitable timeline for a safe resumption of baseball activities at The Sandlot. After collaborating with those mentioned above, we have determined it will not be safe to hold our Spring Tune Up Camp on April 5 or the tournaments on April 11th and April 18 as previously planned.

Therefore, at the recommendation of the Lawrence County Health Department and in conjunction with other government entities, Sandlot Baseball will remain closed through  Friday, April 24. We will reevaluate circumstances at that time and, if cleared by the Health Department, would plan to play our first tournament on Saturday, April 25.

We encourage everyone to follow the guidelines set forth by your local health department, the State of Missouri and the CDC.  Please continue to monitor the Sandlot Baseball website and our Facebook page for updates.

Be safe.

Sandlot Baseball & COVID-19

Sandlot Baseball COVID-19 Statement

Like many in the industry, Sandlot Baseball is continuing to monitor the latest updates to the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation to best assist the baseball community.  To begin, it’s imperative we all follow the guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC resources are continually updated as new information arises so please check back regularly.

At this point in time, Sandlot Baseball has no plans to cancel any of its upcoming events. However, that decision is subject to change based on decisions by federal, state, local or other public health authorities.

Below is a list of basic guidelines from the CDC that will guide us all in helping to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses:

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

• Stay home when you are sick.

• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

As it relates specifically to baseball, we suggest the following additional preventative measures:

• Encourage anyone who is sick (players, coaches, umpires, fans) to stay away from activities. Consider encouraging fans with medical conditions (i.e. heart or pulmonary conditions, diabetes) that may make them more at risk for COVID-19 to avoid mass gatherings.

• Avoid handshakes in pregame meetings and postgame handshake lines.

• Use good hygiene practices with water bottles.

• Properly clean and sanitize all baseball equipment.

• Bring hand sanitizer to events.

We encourage individuals to contact their local healthcare providers and public health authorities if they have questions or concerns regarding individual medical advice. Given the rapidly evolving nature of this situation, please continue to monitor information from the CDC, and state and local public health authorities.

Sandlot Baseball Coronavirus Awareness

As we enter into the spring and summer tournament season, we want to ensure all our participating athletes, parents, staff and coaches that Sandlot Baseball continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation and is taking all necessary precautions at every level of our sports platform.

Although we do not see any immediate danger or cause for concern, our dedicated staff will be onsite to monitor and implement any measures needed to continue and provide the safest and most sterile environment for all involved.

Additionally, we will be following the guidelines set forth by the CDC at all our facilities and upcoming events. While there is still more to learn about coronavirus, our intent in sharing this is to provide current and accurate information about the situation, and to offer pragmatic steps we all can take to keep ourselves, our family and friends, and our communities healthy and safe, while minimizing panic. We all have a responsibility to do our part to limit the spread of this virus and other illnesses, especially to those at a higher risk due to age, compromised immunity, or pre-existing conditions.

Additionally, by doing as much as we can to stay healthy ourselves, we support the healthcare providers who will be caring for those in greater need when it becomes necessary. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at 417-466-5653 or 417-737-3548.
